Can you solve this riddle?

One day Gary ran into his local store. He raced past the computer at the front of the store and to the back where the iPods were and grabbed one. He stuffed it into his pocket. Five minutes later he was on his way out of the store when the local detective came running up to him.

"Excuse me," the detective panted, "an iPod has just been stolen, and there is one sticking out of your pocket. Did you steal that?"

Gary managed to stay calm and said, "No, sir. Mine has music downloaded on it." He showed him all of the music downloaded. The detective looked around the store, then declared Gary guilty. How did he know that Gary had stolen it?
