Can you solve this riddle?

You walk to a beach and a passing bystander has something that interests you. 3 switches. 3 bulbs. 1 ladder in a dark room. 1 bulb doesn't light up (it holds gold). 2 have booby traps and do light up. You can only flip 2 switches, then you have to flip them back. Stepping on the mats in front of the stands activates the trap. How do you get the gold without being trapped?
